Non-Healing Wounds or Ulcers

Chronic wounds—especially in the oral cavity, skin, or genitals—that do not heal within a few weeks may signal cancerous changes.

Common Cancers Associated:

Oral cancer
Skin cancers (e.g., squamous cell carcinoma)
Cervical or vulvar cancer

Symptoms to Watch:

Bleeding or discharge from the ulcer
Color or texture changes
Rapidly growing edge or mass

Next Steps:

A biopsy of the non-healing area is critical. If cancer is confirmed, wide local excision or reconstructive surgery may be required to remove the diseased tissue and restore function.
