Unexplained Lumps or Masses

Unexplained Lumps or Masses

One of the most common warning signs of cancer is the development of a lump or swelling, which may occur anywhere in the body—breast, neck, abdomen, groin, or under the skin. These may be painless initially but should never be ignored.

Common Cancers Associated:

Thyroid cancer

Breast cancer

Soft tissue sarcomas

Lymphoma

When to Act:

If the lump grows in size, feels hard or immobile, or is accompanied by skin changes or pain, a thorough evaluation is required. Imaging (like ultrasound or MRI) and a biopsy can confirm the nature of the lump, and if malignant, surgical excision may be necessary.
